Social Investment Portal

As part of our partnership with the Borealis team, we have developed a new social investment portal, enriching the experience of their customers. This portal enables organizations using the Borealis platform to collect donation and sponsorship requests through customizable questionnaires. Integrated directly into their stakeholder management system, this portal facilitates data centralization, request management and decision-making for organizations.

Context

Issues

Borealis is a Quebec-based company that develops the most sophisticated stakeholder management software on the market. With over 20 years' experience, the company helps hundreds of companies worldwide optimize their operations and interactions with stakeholders. Borealis software is proving indispensable in a variety of sectors where social acceptance, social responsibility and stakeholder influence analysis are crucial to business success.

Shortly after working with Borealis to design a new intelligent Chrome extension, this time we tackled another part of the system: the Social Investment module. This module, which helps manage requests for donations and sponsorships, is much appreciated by users, but adding new requests could be laborious due to manual data entry.

Indeed, when a new donation request was received, it had to be manually added to the system in order to be properly tracked. If an organization receives a large number of requests, this process is not only time-consuming, but also creates risks associated with potential data entry errors, which reduced the overall appeal of the social investment module.

To optimize its platform and eliminate the need to manually enter donation requests into the system, Boréalis wanted to develop a new public portal connected to the social investment module. This portal would enable stakeholders to submit their sponsorship requests directly, so that these would be automatically compiled and classified correctly, without manual intervention.

Our work

Development and tools

We started with an in-depth analysis of the needs and created a requirements document validated by the client, thus laying a solid foundation for the project. This document allowed us to compare several form builder tools to identify the one that meets the majority of the needs, versus the option of creating our own form system from scratch. After testing several options, our choice settled on the SurveyJS library, which allowed us to easily create two React applications:

  1. A renderer: The application where stakeholders can access the forms and complete their requests;
  2. An editor: An application that allows the Borealis team to quickly create customized forms based on their clients’ needs.

We also set up an automatic mapping system for questions related to the Borealis data model. Thus, information such as the requester’s name, organization and email, or the requested amount is automatically assigned to the appropriate fields in the system. In this way, when a new request is submitted through the social investment portal, it is automatically created in Borealis with all the information necessary for decision-making. The person responsible for donation requests is then assigned to process the request.

  • Automatic filtering of requests: Data validation and filtering criteria can be applied to pre-categorize social investment requests automatically. Highly practical for organizations receiving large volumes of requests.
  • Download responses: Applicants can download a PDF copy of their application for their files.

In short, our solution makes it easier for Borealis customers to centralize their data without having to maintain their own form system. It also facilitates application follow-up and the decision-making process for managers.
